EXPLAINING A PROBLEM

Preparation

B You think that your parents are too strict because you have to be at home before 9.30 p.m. at the weekend. You have talked to them about it, but they won't change the rule.

1.What's the situation?
I think my parents are too strict and I'm not agree on some of their rules.
2.Are you worried or angry? Why?
Yes I am. I'm worried because I'm sick to argue with them and I'm angry because I think that they can change some of their strict rules.
3.What is your ideal solution?
I think the best solution is that we talk about it and we find a correct hour for the bouth.
4.What would be the consequences of that?
We will be more happy and more friendly with each other and with the people around us.
5.Is there another solution?
Yes, there is. But I think it is the worst. There's the possibility that my parents don't want to listen to me and they do everything they want with the rules.
6.Why do you need advice?
I need some advice because I'm not sure about my ideal solution. It can exist another possibility. Probably, somebody with another viewpoint can give me some different solutions.

AN INTERVIEW WITH MERI by Gemma Riera

Meri said that she was feeling good today. She's happiest when she goes out with her friends and she said friends and family were two things which she couldn't live without. If she could be anywhere in the world at this moment, she would be on a beach.
Meri hasn't got a great memory, however, she remembers her last birthay. She said that it was fantastic! Sher remembers too that she went to Italy on a school trip when she was fifteen. The best holiday she has ever had was in Tunis.
She's always trying to be positive about the future. I asked if the planet would be a better place in a hundred years, and she said tht it probably happen.
When she's older, Meri thinks that she might still live in Banyoles or maybe, in Girona.

A FORMAL LETTER

16th May 2008
The Community Fund
16 Suffolk Street
London
SW144NL

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to enquire about lottery funds for a community project in our town.
Banyoles is a town in the north of spain. There are a lot of interesting places in and around the town. There are a lot of new residential areas, but there are, too, a lot of people who haven't got a home. For that reason, we would like to build a centre for the people who have not got house, family or food. This centre could make Banyoles a better town.
I would be grateful if you send me information about lottery grants. If you have any questions about our project, please do not hesitate contact me.

Yours faithfully,
Gemma Riera

A DISCUSSION ESSAY

The Internet is a better invention than books. Discuss.”

The Internet has became important in the last fifteen years. In my opinion, I think it's very important. With out Internet, we're nobody. We need Internet everyday. But I think that it isn't the best invention ever made. Before it was invented, people used to play with people and communicate more with each other face to face. But to search information about something was more difficult than today. Now, the people can talk using Internet, we can search information about everything. And with it, it isn't necessarily to go out in all the day.

Books, on the other hand, have some advantages, opposite to internet. One advantage is that when you read a book, you can imagine all the story. The disadvantage is that you have to spend a lot of time reading a book. The Internet, however, have other advantages, too. The advantatges of the Internet are that it's so fast and if you have some question of something, you can have the answer inmediately. The disadvantages are that it's destroing the musicians' companies becouse every body downloud the songs by internet.

All in all, I think that is better the Internet because it makes everything easier. But I don't think the Internet is the best invention ever made. And it was so difficult to create. I believe technology will create more things like it. Then our world will be better.

MY LIFE

I was born in Barcelona in 1993. When I was young, we lived in a different house. It was in Sabadell. We’ve never moved again since then. I’ve been here in Banyoles for thirteen years.

My earliest memory is very clear. I was in my class with my friends and Carme Rivera was teaching us the “peix martí”. I also remember my first day at primary school. My teacher’s name was Mrs. Busquets, and I met her in the first class.

I’ve been at Casa Nostra Secondary School for three years. I’ve changed since I was young. I think that I’m more mature now, and my hair is a different colour! When I finish secondary school, I’ll probably study Batxillerat. Before I’m old I really want to go to India.

DESCRIBE AN ACCIDENT

This was the dramatic scene yesterday at Roadwest street. A man was trapped for hours when there was a problem with his car in the middle of the street.
The incident began at twelve o’clock. The car fell in a hole. The man in the car was talking on the phone when it happened. As soon as the people saw it, they called the rescue sevices.
At first, there was complete panic. People who saw it, was very stressed and frightened.
After four hours, the man was finally walking relax again. Later, he said: “It was the most frightening experience of my life”.

MY LAST SUMMER

My last summer was fantastic! But in June not a lot because I only stayed in Banyoles. July wasn’t different, I stayed in Banyoles too. The rest of the month I just stayed at home and I met friends. August, was the best month! I travelled to Edimburgh with Emma, Lucy (my English after class lessons teacher), three girls and a boy. It was very fun, because in the same weeks we stayed in Edimburgh, there were the theatre festival. At the end of August, I travelled to Belgium. I went there with my athletics team. We enjoyed a lot there. One day we went to the Belgium stadium to see the Golden Ligue. In it, we saw Yelena Isinbayeva and Ussain Bolt. It was very exiting! In September, I stayed in Banyoles with friends and to start to think about the school.
